Adoption of budgie, parakeet?

My neice wants a parakeet (budgie) and I am well aware that there are several birds in shelters needing a home but I cannot find a budgie for adoption as any none have any or they want so much money for one that I could literally buy 20 from even the most expensive shops.

What are other ways to get a budgie needing a domestic.

Oh, and I'm not looking for a cheap or free bird as the cage, supplies and ongoing food and toys doesn't come with a free or cheap bird.
Firstly It is great to read someone with common sense
" I'm not looking for a cheap or free bird as the cage, supplies and ongoing food and toys doesn't come near a free or cheap bird."

That is the most important thing ...

If you lived in NSW AUSTRALIA I'd afford you one .
But have you looked up a budgie club or looked for a local breeder

Here is a website and most of the members are selling their birds
$10 - $20

Check near your local bird club/society. Some of them take in unwanted birds, so you might be able to find a budgie within. Where I live, we have the Northwest Indiana Bird Association, and they adopt out birds. Check the internet for such places and you'll get yourself a new adopt budgie.
Answers:    You could always put a short time ad in the local paper. Budgie considered necessary. Quite often people have one and newly keep feeding and watering it enough to preserve it alive because they don't know how to re home one. Your ad might be enough for someone to read aloud, thank goodness. we can give this damn bird away!! Good Luck

Why is it that animals follow you or supplicate when you hold food?   My bird's diet?is it unhygienic?   Which is a better identify?   My bird keep making increasingly eggs! How do I stop this?
