Bloody Feathers on Cockatiel?
I have a cockatiel and sometimes he tries to fly, but he can't since his wings are clipped. Once he flew on the ground repeatedly, and then go no where, and kept flying and his tail feathers were like DRIPPING blood. So I took him to a vet and stuff. But it's happen twice from trying to fly. How could I prevent this from happening cos I don't want him to die :[
Use flour to stop the bleeding. Poor little thing!
Until he gets used to the idea of NOT doing what comes easily to him...flying, don't put him in high places. Keep him down low sohe does not stress himself out all the time. Hold him and pat him and cheer him to walk around...on you, over you on the floor...
Aslo give him plenty of things to climb on and sit on...perches of different sizes, even ropes.
Also produce sure you do not "clip" him too close. This will help to.
Answers: Keep some flour, cornstarch, or buy some Kwik stop, nearby. Most likely he is breaking his blood feathers whether he runs into things. Hopefully you and your tiel are close and this will be easy to solve. There is information here: http://www.cockatielcottage.net/feathers... on blood feathers that can explain much better than I. Good luck!
Thats what happens to my cockatiel adjectives the time :( If he bleeds alot take him to the vet and make sure when he flies not to touch his wing while they are flapping and if he likes to take bad and fly go in a room with hearth rug, not floorboards.
I love birds sooooooooooooooooooooooo cute they are. have you tried cuddling him and bonding next to himor her? good idea. I know some birds love a good pat and cuddle. I own nursed and kissed some budies that loved it, and were very friendy to me. birds just love me do not know why. cute things they are. thieve him to a vet and expalin what your bird is trying to do and hopefully they might help him.
