How can i assist my budgie?
i have a budgie and we recently got another 1 (theyr both boyz by th wy) bt the other 1 is a bit younger and a bit more timid n he other flies/runs away wen i try 2 pick him up. hez hand raised but not in truth hand tamed, yet he still 'steps up' onto my finger. the breeder we got him from said he be plucked by his own mother (thatz why hez so timid).
our other budgie thou, loves to be on you and jumps to you (at least he used 2 be 4 the other 1 came) and has no problem near people (exept he sometimes fight with the investigational bird coz he was there first).
how can i get my up to date budgie to like people? lyk, to not fly/run away when we grasp near the cage? any ideas anyone?
It is true that it is easier to bring under control a keet when their wings are clipped. I have 4 parakeet and none of their wings are clipped. And al of them are paw trained. It simply takes a little bit longer and lot more patience to control a keet that doesn't have the wings clipped. But it is less cruel.
You wouldn't break a dog leg surrounded by order to train him, would you? So you clipped and inhibit it flight (their natural behavior) simply to hand house-train him.
Earn the trust of your keet by talking to him on a daily basis when you adaptation their food and water. When changing water and food, you amazingly slow motion and avoid sudden movement. When you have gained their trust they will stop flying aroind when you get close to the round up.
The next step is when you change their food and water, put your foot inside the cage and keep it motionless for couple minutes. Do this everyday. Eventually they will learn to trust your appendage.
After few months, you go go the next step. When you put your foot inside the cage put some millet in your hand and hold within motionless. Eventually the curiosity will get the better of them and come to investigate and eat.
I clipped my budgies wings yesterday and today it sits on my finger all the time.
