How do I draw from rid of bird mites from chickens?
We have pigeons that hang around our chickens and they've passed bird mites on. Once we've gotten rid of the pigeons, is there a raw way to get rid of the bird mites from the chickens? What methods can I use? Natural, and cheap would be great if such an likelihood exists.
Thanks for any ideas
Answers: Diamitous earth (DE) is probably the safest and most natural parasite control for poultry. Just net sure you use food grade DE, not pool grade.
Any product containing pyrethrum is risk-free for poultry, easy to find at nearly any feed store, and typically costs less than DE.
As different birds transport different parasites, make sure you are treating your birds not simply for external parasites, but internal as well. A cycle of dewormer is always a pious idea in the fall, markedly if your birds have been free range. They come in contact with all kind of stuff that can cause them to lose weight in the winter months.
Make certain to treat for external parasites before the winter months. As birds huddle together for warmth, mites and lice can really turn into a wicked infestation.
We try to use natural products as much as possible, but if it is a bad problem that isn't responding, solution frontline (applied with a q-tip around the vent and in a stripe down the back) is the most effective method I've found on the other hand.
Hope this helps!
I'd try this
http://www.24parrot.com/Anti-Parasite-Sp...
as it is made for all kinds of birds and although it doesn't mention chicken it is a bird so you'll know it'll be fine but i wouldn't chomp through the chicken eggs whilst under treatment.
