Parrot give support to experienced owners please ?
I have a 1 1/2 year old Myers parrot. Today for the first time I saw him regurgitate. It panic me at first then I was reading that this is most often typical. He is now very quiet and slow. We enjoy a heated perch for him to keep warm. Should I take him to the Emergency vet or continue until his normal vet opens in the morning.
Regurgitation can be a sign he see you as a mate, and really loves you. Gross yes, but ti is one way they show love. However if he is puffed up, slow, not eating or drinking, droopy tail, near different droppings than usually then I'd get him to the vet.
Is he doing this only beside you around or on you? Doing it to a object? Is he in breeding mode. As regurgitating can be sign of affection and not just sickness. Any other sx or signs of disorder. Puffed up? Tail bobbing, sitting bottom of cage, sleeping more? Its always better to be safe than sorry I would phone up ER vet and see if they have a vet who sees birds in that if not keep him warm and view and take to avian vet in morning to be looked at. have you changed diet?
Answers: What else is up? Is his Tail droopy? is it bobbing from him trying to breathe? How are his droppings? is he eating? drinking water? is he all puffy and tired?? Did you nurture him something that is toxic? (check for site online that give you a list of what is toxic to birds to eat).
Those are signs that he is unwell. and whether he is showing multiple versions of the above signs, it would be worth the trip to the ER. But if he is just tired, try to bring back him to eat his fave treat, or give him some water... and whether he is still slow tomorrow, take him to the vet in the morning.
But if he is acting really sick, and will not get through or drink, I would get him to the ER asap. it is not worth losing your baby.
