dont have birds as pets, they should be free.
All birds are messy to a certain extent. If you want a bird to interact with, then a budgie would be worthy. I would be more than happy to give your society finches a home. I enjoy zebra finches. If you chose to keep your society finches, then you can try to make friends next to them. Feed them treats by hand. They may eventually learn to sit on your hand contained by the cage and take treats from your fingers. You can try different types of fruits and veggies as treats. Also, they like parsley and millet sprays.
Answers: The fact that you have doubts about trading the finches is a biddable sign. Pets are not to trade; they deserve forever homes and unconditional love and stability, and they'd have no idea at all why they're man suddenly uprooted from everything they know and placed somewhere where to them, their future is completely uncertain. If you donate these finches up for a budgie, you may like the budgie, but you will be plagued with the guilt of breaking your promise to the finches for a selfish motivation, and that may actually hinder your bond with the budgie, as you would be thinking in the order of how you should've kept the finches, and also the budgie would sense that you're upset and figure there's something to be stressed about. However, if you save the finches and learn to appreciate them for being who they are and always respect their mental state, you will be greatly rewarded. A budgie will be yours when the time is right
Since you grown a strong bond with those wonderful finches, you should NOT git rid of them for a parakeet. Parakeets are wonderful pet birds, but what if that parakeet does not grow attached to you? Then what? Keep your finches, or you WILL regret it.
Getting a pet of any big-hearted is a lifelong commitment. Do not just "get rid" of these birds to replace them with another. Keep them and when the time comes to bring another bird into the domestic, do it then. It will be very stressful on your current birds to relocate them into a new domestic.
