Advice on cats, food, litter, sleeping and entertainment?

I'm a student living in private halls and we have somewhat adopt a cat. If fine, happy, safe and not quite full-bodied but being medicated (living with two vets help lol). My question is just to ask about General insist on on food and litter trays. For example does anyone if cats prefer them to be far from each other etc. Or should they sleep near any etc.
He is a neuter senior cat whose been stray for about a year. Very poorly when we took him surrounded by and seems quite old. so any philosophy for entertainment for him?
I don't think cats mind sleeping to hand their food at all, but I would imagine it would be more comfortable for them to not have the litterbox right subsequent to their bed.
As for entertainment, seniors can be rather grouchy. If he doesn't go for toys(feathers, rattly mousies, bouncy balls), perhaps there's a windowpane where he can watch a bird feeder? ^_^
Put the food and water bowls process away from the litter box, they shouldn't be very close together. Across the room from each other whether at all possible.

Food should be good quality and undemanding for them to digest, especially for a senior cat. He'll likely want to sleep a lot. Try brushes on him for that mutual grooming sense so many cats love. A laser pointer may be fun but don't espect him to act like a kitten going gonzo over it. Sometimes they a short time ago are happy enough playing finger/footsie with you. See what the cat seem to like. A piece of paper in front of him near your finger coming out from under it is often about as enthusiastic a game as they want. LOL
Answers:    The bed area and food can be near each other but I would move the litter box absent so as not to get scattered litter in the food or wet dishes. Sometimes the litter gets kicked out.

As for toys, a few catnip mice (cloth mice filled with catnip) or a couple of small soft ball may keep him entertained. Often, older cats merely like to lay around and sleep alot.

Brush/comb him regularly, he will like that.
How's $77 for spaying a cat, includes shots and vaccination too?   (UK) About my kitten and the vet?   Do you mull over a lint roller would work to carry the cat curls out of my shirt?   Getting cat neuter, want some direction?
