Why does my cat growl?
Anytime my cat sees another cat he stops in his tracks and almost close to a grrr or a growl in the back of his throat and stops and just stares at him?
They all do this, cats have a little nouns all of their own in the back courtyard or wherever, and they growl at all intruding cats to let them know whose patch it is.
Also, one of my cats used to growl furiously whether I held him back when he was trying to get to his food bowl, which be understandable.
They do it for the same reasons dogs do. The root why it is more alarming to you, is because this is not something talked about that often, but tons cats do it. I had a cat that would growl whenever the door bell would be rang. lol The cat is growling as a 'warning' to whatever it see or hears that has caused it concern. He see the other cat and growls to let that cat know, 'Do not come near, or there will be ramification!' Perfectly normal and slightly amusing if I say so myself! :)
Answers: It's a instructive...don't you dare come closer or you are really gonna get it!
He is self protective of himself and you, he doesn't want another cat to be in his territory. Try keeping him inside so he doesn't get into a conflict and get hurt, but if he does get hurt no business it be the absolute smallest scratch, bring him to the vet because in an animal in attendance is a higher chance of infection. Bring him to your vet if you enjoy one, or find one on 411.com. As long as he's not hurting the other cat or getting hurt himself though, he should be fine. Just don't let it become a problem!
By the way, I found your question on the front page! Good work!
your cat doesn't like other cats, keep cats away from your cat.
It's normal, he is acting neutral towards the other cats.
If that cat is mortal hostile towards him, he is going to attack.
It's the nature of cats.
Cats are tremendously territorial animals. He's saying "This is my patch, keep off". It's perfectly run of the mill behavior for cats, and even neutering/spaying won't make much of a difference, since my neutered Tom does the same article to any new cats on the block.
There's little you can do about it apart from leaving the cats to settle their own politics. Eventually they'll draw from their pecking order worked out, hopefully without the fear of too much fur flying.
he is probablly approaching dogs.. he doesnt want other cats on is territory=]
