English, French, or purely bulldog? Which is the right pet name for the breed? ?
I've heard that the "English" in English bulldog is not the correct. What more or less "French" bulldogs? Are they different breeds or incorrect labels? I need some clarification.
English Bulldog French Bulldog
The Old English Bulldog is the classic, smush face, squat body, bow legged, rose eared dog you may have seen within pictures. The French Bulldog is much smaller and has erect ears and is sometimes mistaken for a Boston Terrier (on steroids) LOL. They are different in temperament as well as the French bulldog be breed as a companion dog and never for fighting.
Just to toss another monkey wrench. The American bulldog, looks a bit like a white boxer at first glance. It is a much taller dog next to an elegant body rather than the stumpy body of the old English and French
Answers: Boy, terrible answers!
According to the AKC, it's
Bulldog (often referred to impolitely as English Bulldog) http://www.akc.org/breeds/bulldog/
French Bulldog (smaller bulldog breed) http://www.akc.org/breeds/french_bulldog...
The UKC also recognizes the American Bulldog - a larger offshoot of the Bulldog. http://all-american-bulldog-club.com/
The 'Olde English Bulldogge' is allegedly trying to recreate the way Bulldogs used to look, but I have serious reservations around it.

Completely different breeds.
Bulldogs are sometimes call English Bulldogs, but the English part is not necessary and sometimes confusing as it is too similar to Olde English Bulldogge. I just read aloud Bulldog and people know what I'm talking about.
A French Bulldog is call just that. The French is necessary and they are a completely different breed.

BYB's are wackadoodles: I just wanted to consent to you know your answer was terrible. All of the answers above you were right. All the breeds I down and most of the ones they listed are correct. AKC is only ONE breed registration and freshly because a breed is not recognized by them doesn't make them not a breed. Do your research, all the breeds Listed are full-pure-bred breeds. The American Bulldog is the biggest, strongest, and healthiest of them adjectives though.
They are different breeds.
