What precisely is an agility contest?
My dog is really active and strong for a 2 year old golden retriever. I want to try to decide whether agility might be for him. He loves to run and jump and play...but is really hyper around people that aren't close family.

Well, he would need to be trained to do agility, and that training would include proper behavior around strangers.
I suggest starting out near regular obedience classes, to get some basic control and righteous manners under your belt, the go for the agility classes.
Agility is a lot of fun, my dogs love it!

Well whether hes that hyper & such a happy dog he will be great at agility!
Start looking for a class now,they might not clutch you on straight away so in the mean time work on his social skills & his manners around other poeple.

pretty much adjectives it is is a obstacle course that has to be completed as fast as your dog can do it but he have to be trained for it first like i said
Your dog sounds like he'd enjoy it. It's basically an hitch course for dogs. They climb up things, jump over hurdles, and weave in and out of poles. Try searching it on YouTube.
