Betta and Neon Compatability?
I have a 2.5 gal. fish tank for my male Crowntail betta, Nickle. I get it yesterday, and gonna put hin in tomorow. I have a small plastic plant, and small tunnel rock type thing. Theres plentiful colored marbles, and I might get a new Betta plant thingymijig, like the ones that come within bulbs.
Heater keeps water at about 80 degree, and a filter power by bubbles. Anyway, I am thinking about getting 2 Neon Tetras, Or 2 Cardinal Tetras. Do Bettas not like those fish? Do I have adequate space? Thanks for reading!
hmmm. tetras do better surrounded by groups of 6+. i do keep my neon tetras in a pair contained by my 10 gallon, but they do seem lonely.
there isnt room for those three fish, i have a 2.5 as resourcefully, and i know for a fact you cant fit more than a betta in there. you could try but whether it seems like they are cramped move the tetras to a bigger tank. this is adjectives i can say. have fun!
From my experience they get along fine. I have a betta surrounded by a community fish tank and there are a few neons in near. But I wouldn't recommend putting anymore fish in that tank. If you really have this huge urge to put something else contained by there get a small algae eating Kori or something. The albino ones can be cute. That mode the fish you add will be beneficial to your tank.
Do Bettas not similar to those fish? NO bettas prefer to be alone buy YES they are compatible.
Do I have enough space? Not for the tetras they need minimum school of 6 and atleast 2 gallons each
The bettas shouldn't attack them unless they're tiny. The problem you have is that neons should be kept contained by a school of 6, and you don't have room for that in a 2.5 gallon.
Answers: Your tank is full already with just your betta within it, and I strongly suggest not putting anymore in it! If you really want to add some companions four your betta, I would propose ghost shrimp, however. Ghost shrimp add little to nothing to your bioload. Just be certain to feed them with sinking algae and/or shrimp wafers, however.
If you ever invest in a larger cistern, however, a school of 5 or more neon or cardinal tetras would go nicely next to your betta. In my opinion, the best tankmates for betta fish are smaller, non-fin nipping tetras, and corydoras catfish. Also, I don't recommend the packs of bulbs you can buy at Wal-Mart or Petsmart... You will generally get only one plant to sprout from them, and that's if your'e lucky. I propose just buying some already live plants from your local fish store, such as Water Wisteria, Java Moss, Java Fern, or Hornwort/Moneywort -- All of which are low-maintenance plants.
your tank is to full!!
