Im 5'7 can i ride 14.2?
im getting a horse on loan the winter,
a 14.2 gelding pony
they guy asked if i'd be to big for it and i said no but now im wondering whether i am?
i weigh around 135lbs
will i get away with it??
I'm 5ft 8 and weigh about 11 stone.
We've got a 13.2hh pony and I be very dubious as to whether he could take my cargo (he's a stocky New Forest cross) and i really didn't like the idea of getting on him.
However, my friend convinced me to try him out so I sat on him, partially expecting him to buckle under my weight, but no, he stood there fortunately with pricked ears and wanting to go.
He happily walk, trotted, cantered and jumped around the arena and showed no signs of straining.
I now ride him a couple of times a week, and he is more than thankful. He's eager to work or go out on a hack. I'm still a little watchful of overdoing it,
I was once told by a vet that an 11hh Welsh Mountain Pony would happily carry a 10 stone human being, so I think ponies are a lot more stronger than people tender them credit for.
It's just you may feel a little foolish being that close to the ground!!
I'm 5'6" and weigh a little more than you and I sometimes ride rather 14.2hh morgan. we jump 3'+ so you should be just fine!
yes-you can do it!
im 5'9 and ride my arabian/QH mix who is around 14.2 hands and i may look a little foolish on her but hey- we turn n burn.
i think that you will be fine- size dont matter, as long as yer havin a good time- enjoy fun with it and good luck!
Good luck and relieved riding.
Like I said in another post, a lot of adults/taller teenagers ride ponies. Some of them are pleasure riders and it's a godsend for them to know how to ride smaller horses and large ponies rather than dealing with a hulking horse. It's really quite common in the UK and Europe for developed women to ride ponies, a lot of them the native breeds. I'm over five foot and ride a 14.1 Haflinger. And I'm happy near him.
For the original poster -- as long as you're comfortable with him and he's comfortable with you, and is nice and sturdy and built stout, you shouldn't own any problem with him. Your height's right and your weight's right. And you're the one paying the bills. If you're happy with him, don't jump looking for another lease you might not be as happy with just because someone think you might be too big.
Like I posted above, I'm 5'6". My Haflinger is 14.1 hands. Here's some pictures of me and him:
See, we really fit well together. If you're happy, travel for it!
you probably wont fit it well. but if you don't show and you are just doing it for pleasure riding, size really doesn't issue.
you should fit him, just your legs might be a little low, have fun!
Ive see people that tall ridding a 14.2 looks a little rotten but the horse is fine as long as you are balanced
as long as the horse is dutiful and strong it dosent matter
yes you should be fine =] good luck
oh yes my liitle cousin is one and only 8 years old and 3 foot 2 and he rides my uncles 15' 2 hands Theral bread. so of corse you can
Step stools serve! lol
