How weak do hamsters own to be to separate them from the mother? I don't want them to reproduce.?
I received a young hamster from a friend. One week later, it had two babies. I read that males can be sexually live at three weeks. I don't want to start raising hamsters. I want to separate them as soon as it is a good time to do it. I already have unsullied homes for two of the hamsters.
You should always sex your hamsters at four weeks and then separate them. The general rule of thumb to sex a hamster is this: whether the distance between the anus and genitals is close together it's a female and if they are farther apart it's a male.
From my experience with breeding mice, males become sexually mature at 6 weeks, where on earth as females become sexually mature at 8 weeks. I highly doubt that a 3 week old hamster would be capable of mate. They barely have the ability to do anything else at that point. I'd say-so separate them at 5 weeks. If you see that they are eating on their own and running on their wheel at 4 weeks, you can separate them then. Hope this help:)
Answers: Well, it takes 21 days to ween hamster but its up to you when you want to after those 21 days.
It is best to separate them at three weeks because this is the age they can start to reproduce.
